Belmond announces an important restructuring plan for the Hotel Belmond Splendido Mare in the heart of Portofino. The Paris-based designers of FESTEN Architecture have been appointed to lead the project with the reopening scheduled for June 2020. Located in the heart of the harbour town, down the hill from the iconic Belmond Hotel Splendido overlooking the bay, the renovation of Splendido Mare and the Chuflay restaurant will reinvigorate this hot spot of the Italian Riviera by celebrating timeless Italian sophistication and incorporating the highpoint of mid-century Italian modern design that corresponds to Portofino’s incomparable spirit.Belmond Splendido Mare, located in the beating heart of the port of Portofino, benefits from an unsurpassed position in the Piazza and is the ideal place to enjoy an aperitif while the sun sets over the Ligurian sea. This residence has 14 rooms, including four suites, secluded behind characteristic corridors, with a view of the port of Portofino, where guests have the feeling of being in their own private residence from hidden terraces. The new design draws inspiration from nautical traditions. Each room refers to the interior of a typical Italian fishing boat and features authentic antiques including fruitwood armchairs by Paolo Buffa and fabrics by Italian manufacturers such as Loro Piana and Rubelli and enriched with soft and refined bedspreads and chair covers . Bespoke wooden floors with square motifs further reflect Portofino culture. The arches and ceilings of the doors are accentuated by traditional Ligurian colors; amber, sea green and terracotta. The Chuflay restaurant has long been a hive of social activities; where local residents and international travelers converge and cultivate friendships. A few steps from the port and the Piazzetta, hotel guests arrive in a bright open space that connects the Chuflay restaurant directly with the hotel; an open invitation to relax in a family atmosphere.Encapsulating the cheerful character of Portofino, the open atrium space reflects the liveliness of traditional Ligurian colors with light-colored furniture, including antique pieces by Gio Ponti which are further accentuated by dark green and antique yellow furniture. The terracotta flooring gives it a more rooted and rustic charm, providing the backdrop for the suggestive blue sea which is the beating heart of Portofino.Sister of the Belmond Hotel Splendido, located above the harbor, guests of the Belmond Splendido Mare will have full access to the refreshing infinity pool with salt water, to the terraced gardens with panoramic sea views and to the wellness center. For more information, visit www.belmond.com.Belmond Ltd., part of the world’s leading luxury group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, has been a pioneer of luxury travel for over 40 years in some of the world’s most inspiring and fascinating destinations.
